Welcome to EdScreening. We are a Sydney based company developing innovative, research-based technology that can be used to better support the educational outcomes and wellbeing of all children, in particular those impacted by a range of learning challenges and neurodiversity. Our offices are located at UTS, Ultimo and in the heart of one of NSW's most vibrant innovation and research hubs.
"In 2018, I realised that my daughter was struggling at school. She was in Year 1. Not only was she finding it hard to keep up with the other students in her learning, but she was also desperately unhappy. It was just heartbreaking to see her cry every morning, begging me not to go to school.
By the end of Year 2, we had tried everything. The school had been so supportive, and done everything they could, but nothing seemed to work. We had tried extra support at school and, at the school’s recommendation, we also tried speech and occupational therapy. But nothing seemed to make a difference. The years passed and every day, my daughter lost more and more of her confidence, school every day was traumatising for her, and I felt utterly helpless. We just didn't know what to do. Then a friend told me about an educational researcher and expert from one of the NSW universities whom she’d met at a conference. She offered to reach out to her for me for guidance.
Her response was amazing! She generously offered to help, and thanks to her expertise and extensive knowledge based on the latest educational and psycho-educational research, she knew exactly what to do! Her initial recommendations included a combination of various tests done by a variety of experts and healthcare professionals, designed to hone in on my daughter’s specific learning strengths and needs. It took several months (and cost several thousand dollars), but once we had the results, they did the trick! The comprehensive approach to testing gave her a clear picture of my daughter’s strengths and challenges, and her expert knowledge of the latest research allowed her to provide my daughter's teacher with a clearer understanding of how she learns. She provided him with a number of easy-to-implement strategies to help support her learning journey. From this point on, the insights provided by these simple strategies began to completely transformed her learning experience. Within weeks, she was enjoying school again. Within six months, she was thriving.
After so many years of struggle, it really felt like a miracle. Of course, I was overjoyed. Soon after, I visited the university where the researcher worked to deliver flowers and to thank her in person for everything that she had done for us. Her insights and knowledge were incredible, as was her passion for helping children who, like my daughter, were struggling at school. When we met she was gracious enough to offer me coffee, and we spoke at length about the incredible impact her recommendations had on my daughter’s progress and enjoyment of school. She was pleased, but only wished she could help more children. I was then shocked to learn my daughter was only one of up to an estimated 1.6 million students sitting in Australian classrooms every day who were also struggling, just as my daughter had done. But, unlike me daughter, they wouldn’t be able to benefit from the extensive knowledge and research to support their learning, as we had thanks to the person sitting across from me, who had transformed my daughter's learning journey. The researcher agreed. It was her hope that someday every learners would be able to easily access and benefit from the latest in educational research. Perhaps one day, technology and innovation might make this dream a reality . . .
From this one meeting, EdScreening was born."
As parents of children with diverse learning needs, we recognise that every individual has their own unique way of learning, and we understand the challenges parents and teachers face in accessing accurate data or assessments for early identification and support. These challenges are even more pronounced in regional or remote areas, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or children from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Our mission is to develop innovative technology - combined with the latest research - in order to deliver equitable, accessible support that is easy to use and available to all teachers, students, and their families, regardless of location or background. To bring this mission to life, we are researching and developing innovative new technology capable of allowing every teacher, in every classroom, to easily identify diverse learning needs in their class and give them immediate access to the expert guidance and insights that they need to help these unique learners thrive.
Our innovative and pioneering software approach was developed with input from some of Australia’s leading educational and psycho-educational experts and researchers in areas such as giftedness, twice-exceptionality, specific learning disorders, and neurodiversity. It is through the generosity and genuine commitment to equality in learning by these leaders in education that our vision for a better future for all diverse learners has become a reality.
Together, we have created a tool that equips educators and caregivers with the information, support, and solutions needed to help children thrive in their learning journey, particularly those who are neurodiverse or affected by a range of conditions impacting learning.
EdScreening was founded by experts in software, education and research, business, and law, but they were also parents who understood first-hand the challenges of supporting children with diverse learning needs.
Encouraged by educational researchers and experts alike, they embarked on a mission to create a better future for all students. The journey began in 2020, and while some founders have moved on, the company has continued to grow and thrive in its goals. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential and our research and development is pioneering technology to make that a reality.
We’re excited about the future! By strengthening our collaboration with teachers, schools, and the organisations that support them—educational and health care professionals, governments, and others—we envision a bright future with better support, educational outcomes and wellbeing for students with diverse learning needs, everywhere. If you think that we can help your school or organisation, please reach out. We'd love to hear from you!
